Isaiah 53:5 NLT
“But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.”
A long time ago very rich people, royalty and nobility, would appoint a whipping boy for their children. When their boy or girl did something wrong and deserved punishment the whipping boy would be spanked instead of them. He would experience their punishment so they didn’t have to. That is exactly what Jesus did on the cross. The Father appointed Jesus to be our whipping boy, our substitute. He was punished for our sins so we don’t have to be.
