Florida Course of Study

FLORIDA COURSE OF STUDY SCHOOL

The Course of Study is a 20 course curriculum required of all licensed local pastors.  Local pastors who serve part-time are eligible to meet this required curriculum by attending an extension Course of Study.  The Florida Conference's extension Course of Study program meets the requirements of the Book of Discipline and the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry.

For a number of years the Florida program was offered in Gainesville.  Beginning in January 2009 the Florida Course of Study is offered in Lakeland on the campus of Florida Southern College, a United Methodist college.

WHO MAY ATTEND?
These courses are offered for part-time local pastors only. To be admitted to the program, one must:

  • be a certified candidate for ordained ministry;
  • complete requirements for license as a local pastor;
  • receive endorsement by the Annual Conference Board of Ordained Ministry; and
  • be appointed to a local church.

Courses are currently offered in two terms - winter and summer.  The winter term includes a Friday night and all day on Saturday in January, and again in February. The summer term follows the same pattern in June and July.

For more information about the Course of Study School, see our 2010 Schedule, Registration Form, and Cover Letter - (This cover sheet MUST be attached to the precourse assignments for each course!)  The on-line registration form will allow you to complete the form and print it from your computer.  Please Note:  You will not be able to save the completed form.  It is recommended that you print an additional copy for your records.

Dates for Summer 2010 are June 18-19 & July 16-17
