FLORIDA CONFERENCE SCHOOL OF CHRISTIAN MISSION 2008
Carol M. Mounier wrote on 7/13/2008 4:07:16 PM
I haven't been able to attend a school of Mission since I moved to Florida 3 years ago because of illness. I was really disappointed
when I opened up the Web site to check on study topics, sites etc.
The Schools of Mission I attended in the past in Washington state and Virginia had topics that as a mother, grandmother and retired teacher I found more interesting. I remember particularly studying the Canon and focusing on No Child Left Behind
Lay Speaking Ministries Training Event
Glenna wrote on 6/18/2008 9:02:56 AM
Has it really been twelve years since this began? Several folks in conference-level leadership said it wouldn't work for various reasons, but it seemed the right thing to do. There were 26 at the first one and right at 50 at the second. Fred Brockhausen, Orange Park, taught an advanced course or he may have been part of the basic course team. Mark Young, who later authored the basic course for youth, was one of the participants. We had a foot-washing service; the only clergy person there said it was his first ever but it wouldn't be his last; he was 46 and had been in ministry all his adult life. Can't remember if Rev. Shirley Groom were at that first one, but she came to the next two and led the music program. At one of the early ones, we gave out plastic forks tied with red ribbons and the statement "The best is yet to come," referring to the old woman who wanted to be buried with a fork in her hand because "the best was yet to come."
At least two of our early participants, leaders, and teachers have been ordained or are in the process: Rev.Shirley Groom and Rev. Mike Moore. There are others, I'm sure.
God continues to bless this ministry, growing us at many levels: in numbers, depth of program, and spiritually. Roger Swanson may have been the first "big name" speaker. We've come full circle and have grown into our original vision. May His blessings rain down on this ministry crucial to the strength of His church.
In His service and to His glory, Glenna Kyker Brayton, Katy, TX

Ministers' Mates Retreat
Patti Wise wrote on 5/6/2008 1:41:50 PM
The cost for the event is $120. This includes a room at the LEC and meals. However, if you register before June 6th for the 2008 retreat, it is only $100! (If you require financial assistance there are scholarships available.) Look for the brochure at Conference in May in the Exhibition Hall.
We have some great Minister Mates helpin this year: Sarah Baldridge, Lil Black, Marti Peavy and Amelia Wines. Rev. John Peterson from the Florida United Methodist Foundation has also agreed to lead an enrichment group on "Joyfully Debt Free."

Dr. Geraldine:
You have done so much for so many while you have been D.S. As a member of the small church initiative, we are especially thankful for your guidance and support. As an African American clergywoman, I am most appreciative that you are a role model for us here in the Florida Conference.
We will continue to pray for you as you move to the next level in your call to ministry. We trust that God will use in a mighty way.
In Christ,

Conference Table 19: "Young Adults: Reframing the Questions"

I have a big interest in this topic.
A suggestion would be to hold this seminar via a true webcast via the internet such as WebEx or GotoMeeting.

(1) This notice of cancellation was posted less than half an hour before the event was scheduled to begin.
(2) The process entirely ignores the hundreds of us who "attend" Conference Table events via the webcast.
